#1 The merchants are acting like schoolyard bullies.

This petition, even though I'm signing it, is redundant - it reiterates the already-expressed will of citizens in their democratically electing the Project Montréal team. It is repulsive that it is necessitated by the bullying behaviour of the merchants and their various associations.

It must be pointed out to the Plateau merchants that the *citizens* of the borough are who voted for these changes, and not the *consumers*  - who may come from elsewhere and who rightly have no part in the borough elections.

The bullying of the residents cannot put the merchants in a good light with their neighbours, acting as it does directly against the express, democratically expressed will of the community in which they do business.

The borough and the city should not back down, and should charge for parking from as many sources as possible - the car is a divisive element, divides and separates our communities, and fouls the air with filth and noise.

As a merchant owner on Mont Royal West, I fully agree with this statement. Projet Montreal was elected with great confidence in the Plateau Mont Royal borough and therefore deserves the opportunity to enact the will of the people. AND, the car IS a divisive element, and so making its use a little inconvenient is a small price to pay for its ecological and social impact. The negative contribution cars make to our environment deserves to be taxed. For the record, I have not posted the petition at my business.
