The increasing number of new permits specifically extending west of St Laurence is in direct conflict with the expanding residential and commercial activities which support an ongoing presence in the community and solid tax base for the city.
The secondary effect is increased crowds on the narrow sidewalks smoking and loitering outside these establishments. While it is evident that the old port is must be a melting pot for many activities, it is important to look ahead with the larger urban plan, because if the continued expansion of bars continues it will lead to devaluation of property, residents leaving and create an unhealthy vacuum just when the city is striving to show off its "jewel " to the world
