Le soccer pour tous / Soccer for Everyone

Attendu que le multicultualisme est au coeur de l'identité canadienne et qu'il est prouvé que le multiculturalisme a un impact positif sur le développement des enfants;

Attendu qu'aucune étude n'a été menée pour connaître les conséquences du port du turban pour la sécurité des joueurs sur un terrain de soccer et qu'il n'y a donc pas de preuve tangile que le turban peut poser un danger;

Attendu que la liberté de conscience et de religion fait partie des libertés fondamentales de la charte canadienne des droits et libertés;

Attendu que la décision de la fédération de soccer du Québec a un impact négatif sur un des groupes les plus vulnérables de notre société;

Nous, soussignés, demandons à la fédération de soccer du Québec et à ses constituantes de :

- Revenir sur sa décision de banir le port du turban;

- Présenter ses excuses à la communauté Sikh;

- S'engager à éliminer toutes formes de discrimination de ses décisions futures.

Considering that multiculturalism is at the heart of what constitutes a Canadian identity and it is proven that multiculturalism has an impact on the development of children;

Considering that no study has been brought forward with regards to any consequences of wearing a turban as it relates to the security of the players and there is no tangible proof that wearing a turban can be seen as an actual danger;

Considering that the freedom of conscience and religion is an official section of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms;

Considering that the decision made by the Quebec Soccer Federation has a negative impact on the most vulnerable groups within our society;

As such, we [signed here] ask the Quebec Soccer Federation and their constituents to:

- Come back on their decision to ban the wearing of a turban

- Formally apologize to the Sikh community;

- Commit to and come together to eliminate all other forms of discrimination in future endeavours.
